Duckweed, is known in Thai as Khai-nam (“eggs of the water”). This species Wolffia arrhiza is the smallest flowering plant in the world, and yet is higher in protein then soybeans. Despite looking a lot like algae floating on freshwater surfaces, they may actually form an important role in preventing harmful algae blooms.
It is a common high-protein food source across SE Asia.
